Agriculture Ministry proposes 160,000 duty-free import chicken quota

MOSCOW, Nov 1 (PRIME) -- The Agriculture Ministry has proposed a duty-free quota of up to 160,000 tonnes for imports of some types of chicken meat to Russia in 2024, a ministry spokesperson told PRIME on Wednesday.

“To stabilize the pricing situation and to satisfy demand of the internal market for chicken meat and edible chicken eggs during the times of elevated demand for the goods, the Agriculture Ministry has suggested that the sub-commission for customs tariff and non-tariff regulation consider setting a temporary ban on exports from Russia and a tariff preference in 2024 in the form of freeing imports of some kinds of chicken meat to the territory of the Russian Federation of up to 160,000 tonnes from paying the import customs duty,” the spokesperson said.

At the end of October, the ministry suggested a 6-month ban on exports of chicken meat and eggs from Russia, and later, the ministry pointed out that the ban should be set from December 1, 2023 through May 31, 2024.
